About Debralene’s
My Story
Dona and I had been life long friends when four years ago, as Dona went through chemotherapy treatments for ovarian cancer, we searched for a place to buy wigs. I have been a hairstylist throughout my career and wanted to help Dona find something that would feel good and look great. We looked all over the Central Indiana area, finally found a wig, but the experience left something to be desired. After enduring this unpleasant journey, I decided ( with Dona’s friendly encouragement and a few hard nudges) that there was a big need for a better experience for women in Indiana.
Then came tough decisions. I had built a thriving practice in the north east Indianapolis area over 20 some years and moving to a new location was going to be hard on my clients. My clients have become my friends, some very close. This would change many areas of my life. I kept thinking that in order to support a business that would create a totally new experience for women – one they would feel safe in, have privacy, I had to move. Decision done! My friends and clients know me – I’m pretty black and white about things and firm in my decisions once made. I looked all over for that warm, safe and private place and found a cute bungalow in the town of Oaklandon, just inside the city limits.
This new little cottage created room for my hairstyling practice and provided the retail space for my soon to be thriving wig business ( or so I thought!).
Its been an interesting journey so far these past two years. Help and encouragement have come from so many friends and people I have still to meet. Dona passed away this year and I feel the loss of a dear friend, a mentor for me in so many ways. She will always be cherished.
Many of the oncology centers in town and the surrounding area have found me and referred their cancer patients to my business. My clients have taken my brochures and dropped them off to hospitals and doctors offices alike. The Indianapolis Star and Fox 59 News both found me and did stories on helping women that are going through cancer and how my business has been able to be a part of that effort. I feel blessed! So many people I feel gratitude towards and if you’re reading this, I hope you feel a big hug from me. You deserve it.
